CREW BATTLES WAVES, CRABS AT THIRD MANNY FLICK
March 31- Camden, NJ – The Varsity Quad rowed a respectable 5:31 in turbulent waters on the Cooper River last Sunday, helping them to a fifth place finish out of 13 boats. Aidan O’Toole, Gianni Paladino, JP Reis and Andrew Rapella got their season off on a positive note, with great expectations ahead. The race could have gone a little better if not for the rough currents.
Reis was hit in the head by an oar after “catching a crab,” which translates into when a rower’s oar gets stuck in the water and flies up unexpectedly.
CBA of Lincroft was a length-and-a-half ahead of the Crusaders when the crab attacked, but BC pulled ahead to finish 1.2 seconds ahead of them in the heat.
Alex Ferrari on his JV Single sculled his way to a second place finish among a field of 10.
