Cross Country Wins Conference Championship!October 15 - Mahwah, NJ -
The BC Cross Country team enjoyed a historic day at the Big North Conference Championships at Darlington County Park. For the first time in 25 years, the Crusaders are conference champions, defeating Don Bosco, 22 to 33. BC was led once again by individual conference champion senior Braedon Fiume, who torched the field by almost 100 meters in a personal best time of 16:11. The other varsity scorers finished within an amazingly short 14-second time window, securing the team victory. The other scorers were seniors Graydon Nichols (3rd), Elias Shaia (4th), and Jack Welch (6th), and sophomore Owen McCarthy (8th). Seniors Connor Haney and Paul Caprio rounded out the squad.
The Crusaders were just as successful at the JV level, dominating the field for the team win. The JV was led by conference JV champion sophomore James Adams. Senior Robbie Finizio and junior Nick Martinez also had top-5 finishes, and senior Nick Rossi and newcomer senior Andrew Pinto-Shaw locked up the victory. Not to be outdone, Alex Shaia won the freshman championship in convincing manner, followed by classmates Matthew Marques (3rd) and Nick Pesanello (9th).
Next up for BC is the County Group Championships at Darlington Park on Saturday, 10/20.
Fiume Finishes with Fifth Best BC Time at Van Cortlandt ParkOctober 13 - Riverdale, NY -
The BC Cross Country team had an excellent day at the Manhattan Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday. Competing in the largest high school cross country meet in the U.S., the Crusaders placed 4th in the "B" race among 25 teams from across the northeast. BC was led by senior Braedon Fiume, who finished 5th in 13:06 - his 4th straight top-5 finish in a major invitational race. Braedon's time is the 5th-fastest in BC history. Making up the strong scoring pack for the Crusaders were seniors Jack Welch, Graydon Nichols, and Elias Shaia, and sophomore Owen McCarthy. Senior Connor Haney led the JV squad, and James Adams was our top finisher in the sophomore race.

CC Climbs at Garret InvitationalSeptember 29 - Woodland Park, NJ -
The BC Cross Country team had another successful day at the Garret Invitational at the Garret Mountain. The Crusaders were led by senior Braedon Fiume, who finished 4th in the Varsity "A" race in 16:45, the #12 all-time performance for BC at Garret. Other top performers for BC were senior Elias Shaia (24th) and senior Jack Welch (28th). The varsity team finished 4th among 17 teams in the "A" race, and was the #5 team across all 58 teams at the meet. In addition, sophomore Owen McCarthy finished 5th in the sophomore race with the 5th-best time of the day for BC. Capping off the meet, Alex Shaia was 4th in the 2-mile freshman race in 11:39, which is the #8 time on the BC all-time list at Garret.

Cross Contry Runs Strong at Magee ClassicSeptember 22, 2018 - Morris Plains, NJ -
The BC Cross Country team had a very successful day at the Magee Class Meet at Central Park of Morris on Saturday, 9/22. A "class" meet involves all runners competing in separate races based on their school class. The Crusaders were especially strong in the senior race, with Braedon Fiume finishing 5th, followed by Elias Shaia in 27th, and Graydon Nichols in 28th. BC was 5th among 48 teams in the senior race. Sophomore Owen McCarthy led his classmates by finishing 16th in the #4 time of the day for BC. Freshman Alex Shaia had the top finish of the day for Bergen by taking 4th in the Frosh race, followed by Matthew Marques in 15th place. When all 5k results were combined in the overall "merge," the Crusaders finished 6th among 64 complete teams - by far the best showing by any North Jersey school.
Next up for the Crusaders is the Garret Invitational at Garret Mountain on Saturday, 9/29.
The BC Cross Country team opened their season at the Season Opener Invitational at Darlington Park on Saturday. Although missing a few key seniors (taking the ACT test), the Crusaders performed well in their first time out. The varsity squad was led by seniors Elias Shaia (13th) and Graydon Nichols (18th) in placing 5th among 14 teams in the large schools race. The sophomore group was our only podium finish, with Owen McCarthy (5th) leading the sophs to a 3rd place finish among 21 schools represented. Owen was joined by Alex Costabile (11th) and James Adams (15th) at the front of the pack. The freshmen took to the course for the first time as Crusaders and ran well, taking 4th place among 15 schools represented in the large schools division. The frosh were led by Alex Shaia (2nd), who put up the 7th-fastest time ever by a BC freshmen, and by Matthew Marques (8th).
