Dear Bergen Catholic Community,
On behalf of my wife Amy and our children, Brendan, Patrick, and Cameron, I am deeply honored, humbled, and thrilled to be joining Bergen Catholic as your fourth president.
I am inspired by both the mission of Bergen Catholic, and the foundation of an Edmund Rice Christian Brothers education which has guided the school since 1955. From the first moments I stepped on campus, I was impressed with students’ and staff warmth and friendliness. Bergen Catholic is blessed with great achievements in academics, debate, mock trial, and STEM. Along with championship athletics, these are the reasons BC stands out in the field of accomplished schools.
Young men are best prepared to lead when they are placed in environments where high expectations are coupled with exceptional support. For decades this combination has nurtured success and the ethos of the Bergen Catholic Brotherhood. The Brotherhood was evident during my campus tour. An 11th grader proudly walked me around the campus, highlighting the significance of each area while describing the personal impact BC is having on his life. We arrived at the library, a location he described as a destination where he carried on some of his best conversations with fellow classmates. He admitted he did not live far from the school, and when a peer asked why he was not going home for the day, he beamed, “I am home.”
I am grateful to Trustee Brothers Lawrence T. Murphy, Raymond Vercruysse and Peter Zawot, for the faith they have placed in me. I will remain indebted to Brian McAuliffe, Bob Corley, and the entire search committee for their time, commitment, openness, and leadership throughout the Search process.
My wife Amy, an alumna of The Academy of Holy Angels, and our three children, look forward to visiting campus between now and July and hearing from the BC community as we prepare to join you this summer.
Brian Mahoney, Ed.D.
