Bergen Catholic will play Riverdell in the county semifinal next Saturday.

Game summary: After a rocky top of the first, Jacob Denner and the Crusaders settled in and pounded out 14 hits in a big win over PCTI. Several players, including Cole Bosch, David LaManna, Bryan Hallenbeck, and Ray Cortes had big days. Vinnie Martin’s 3-run triple in the fourth gave BC a 7-3 lead and broke the game open. Senior John Pesanello got a pinch hit opportunity in the sixth inning, and came up big with an RBI single! Michael Roll and Cancellieri each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

Game summary: The Crusaders emerged victorious and earned a trip to the second round of the county tournament. Chris Gerard pitched really well before running out of gas in the sixth, striking out 6 in 6 innings. On the same bases loaded hit that tied the game, left fielder Casey Kelly kept things knotted at 3 by throwing the runner out at third. The very next inning, Evan Bergman’s steal of second led to a throwing error on the opposing catcher, and Dom Cancellieri waltzed home. Michael Roll struck out the side in the seventh for the save.

Game summary: The Crusaders escaped with a win over the struggling Paterson Kennedy team on Senior Day. Brendan Donigian started, and Alberto Diaz got the win in relief after Brenden LaSpina’s bloop 2-run double gave them the lead in the fifth. Junior Gerry Siracusa pitched 2 scoreless innings for the save. Captain Andrew DeRubertis, who has missed the entire season with an arm injury, pinch hit in the seventh inning and drew a walk in possibly his last game as a Crusader.

Game summary: It was a perfect day for the Crusaders. Dom Cancellieri, who has hit his way to a starting role, got his first pitching win of the season, going 6 strong innings and striking out 7. Bryan Hallenbeck got some work in in a 1-2-3 seventh inning. The offense woke up and scored 5 runs in the fourth after not scoring that many runs in any of their previous 6 games (they went 3-3 in those games). And with an infield single in the first inning, David LaManna picked up his 100th career varsity hit. The Notre Dame commit picked up #101 later in the game with a bloop single to right.

Chris Gerard came up huge, going 6 innings and giving up 3 runs on 7 hits, 3 walks, 1 hit batter, and 10 strikeouts. Michael Roll came on with the bases loaded and no one out with the Crusaders up 4-1 and didn’t allow a run, as the last out of the game was caught by Vinnie Martin just in front of the centerfield wall. Martin also threw out a runner at home. Gerard also drove in a run, and the BC offense got enough big hits, including Dom Cancellieri’s RBI double, to win.

Game summary: The Crusaders’ 7-game winning streak came to an end, as they played poorly in a loss to St. Mary’s. Gerry Siracusa didn’t have his best stuff, but he left in the sixth with the score tied. With the bases loaded, Alberto Diaz came on and did a great job, but left fielder Rob Cappadona lost a ball in the lights. That ball dropped in for what would become the game-winning hit. The Crusaders only had 5 hits, all singles.

Game summary: The Crusaders won their seventh straight, and got their second walk-off win of the year. Sophomore Jacob Denner outdueled Sean Roberts by twirling a 3-hit shutout, walking 4 and striking out 7. Both pitchers got out of jams, but in the bottom of the seventh the magic came back for BC. Dom Cancellieri walked and moved to second on Evan Bergman’s bunt. Pinch-hitter Gerry Siracusa struck out, but Rob Cappadona played the hero by lining the walk-off hit to center.

Sloppy defense by PC proved to be their undoing, and Dom Cancellieri’s 2 for 2 day with 1 RBI and 1 run didn’t help matters.

A couple of big innings and several big games helped Chris Gerard get the win. The Maryland commit threw 6 scoreless frames, allowing 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. Great plays by shortstop Cole Bosch and second baseman Dom Cancellieri also helped the cause.

Game summary: The Crusaders looked sluggish for much of the game, but they were still able to pull out a win in walk-off fashion. Trailing 6-4 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Crusaders mounted a rally. Vinnie Martin, who had 5 RBI, tied the game with a 2-run single and went to second on the throw. One pitch later, Ray Cortes ended the game with a booming double to center. Dom Cancellieri struggled with command, partly due to the rainy weather. He went 3 innings, giving up 1 run on 1 hit, 6 walks, and 3 strikeouts. Matt Fuschillo struggled, and second baseman Anthony D’Addetta’s error led to 3 unearned runs being charged to Gerry Siracusa. Michael Roll, who threw 2.2 scoreless frames in relief, got the win.

Matt Gorman held the Crusader offense in check, going 6 innings and only giving up 2 runs, 1 earned, in the seventh inning before coming out. Joe Lancellotti’s 2-run home run set the tone for the game in the first inning, and WPC never looked back.

Chris Gerard added 3 RBI, Cole Bosch had 3 hits, 2 runs, and 1 RBI, and captain Vinnie Martin went hitless but still drove in a run and scored 2 more.
