CRUSADER SEASON ENDS IN STATE SEMI 4-0

November 5 - Morristown, NJ -
Bergen Catholic's varsity soccer run in the state playoffs came to an end as they faced a stingy Delbarton Green Wave.  The home team built a 3-0 halftime lead and added an insurance goal in the second half as the Crusaders were unable to break through their defenses.  Ryan Langberg recorded a season-high 6 saves for the second time this year.

CRUSADERS ADVANCE WITH DRAMATIC COMEBACK OVER PINGRY

November 1 – Oradell, NJ – What an afternoon for the Crusaders as they advance in the quarterfinals of the state soccer tournament following a remarkable win over Pingry’s Big Blue! Two Henry’s combined for three of the four goals, with Henry Mouawad continuing his team-leading pace and Henry Hughes knocking in the critical go-ahead goal.

It was an inauspicious start as BC fell behind 2-0 early in the first half, but Mouawad’s first goal cut the deficit in half before the intermission. This was as scrappy a game as there is and highlighted Ian Sykes playing relentless defense in front of Ryan Langberg who shut out Pingry in the second half and finished with 6 saves on the day.

The ignitor in the second half came off a shot from Allen Villafranca which seemed it would have been impossible for any goal keeper to stop. It travelled through the air and tailed toward the top left corner of the goal from outside 30 yards.

From that point on, it was all Crusaders. Hughes knocked in the eventual game winner off an assist from Mouawad and Henry M. finished off the scoring! Michael Tramontozzi and Alexander Burman played critical roles in the victory, each assisting on a goal. Great win in your final game at Crusader Stadium, men!

STATE PLAYOFFS BEGIN NEXT WEEK!

October 23 - Oradell, NJ - The Crusaders are now 11-2 on the season and while Saturday’s setback at Hackensack may have had a miner blemish on the record, the power points gained, helped the Crusaders earn the four-seed in the NJSIAA Non-Public “A” Tournament.

Why is that so important?” you may ask. It means that when the Crusaders open the tournament on Thursday, November 1st, they will do so at 2:00 pm at Crusader Stadium, instead of in Martinsville, NJ at Pingry School. While Pingry is lovely this time of year, our students will be able to cheer on their home team without the hour drive!

Andrew Graf opened the scoring on the day, putting away the first two Crusader goals. He later assisted on a third, giving him three points on the day. Sophomore Jake Sweeney nimbly perambulated his way with the ball around a counterpart, putting a lot of pressure on the defense and generating a goal for himself, BC’s third.
