April 1 – Lyndhurst, NJ – Senior pitcher, Jacob Denner pitched a magnificent game on opening day for the Crusaders with a sparkling one-hitter over Clifton’s Mustang baseball team. Denner allowed only two others to reach base via walk and struck out nine in what can only be described as a promising start for an experienced rotation.
While Florida sun may have seen some bats lagging in pre-season scrimmages, BC tuned up Mustang pitchers for 10 runs on 13 hits. Armari Paula was 3-for-3 on the afternoon, knocking in a run and scoring two. Dominic Cancellieri and Dillon DiBartolomeo were each 2-for-3 with a double. Cancellieri scored two runs, while DiBartolomeo drove a pair home.
“Jacob looked awesome today. He had full command of all his pitches and completely dominated them from start to finish,” said Cancellieri who saw first-hand every pitch at his short stop position.
The big sophomore, Ty Malone, belted a triple in his varsity opener, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Leadoff hitter, Matt D’Amato had a triple as well with a run scored and an RBI on the day.
Orlando Peña had a hit and drove in a run, while Ruven Piño had a hit and scored one.
So, the Crusaders start off 1-0 on the season with a big weekend vs. River Dell on Friday and St. Mary (Rutherford) on Saturday.
