September 8, 2018 – Mahwah, NJ – The BC Cross Country team opened their season at the Season Opener Invitational at Darlington Park on Saturday. Although missing a few key seniors (taking the ACT test), the Crusaders performed well in their first time out. The varsity squad was led by seniors Elias Shaia (13th) and Graydon Nichols (18th) in placing 5th among 14 teams in the large schools race. The sophomore group was our only podium finish, with Owen McCarthy (5th) leading the sophs to a 3rd place finish among 21 schools represented. Owen was joined by Alex Costabile (11th) and James Adams (15th) at the front of the pack. The freshmen took to the course for the first time as Crusaders and ran well, taking 4th place among 15 schools represented in the large schools division. The frosh were led by Alex Shaia (2nd), who put up the 7th-fastest time ever by a BC freshmen, and by Matthew Marques (8th).
Next up for the Crusaders is the Big North Conference “Batch” Meet – which includes a showdown with arch-rival Don Bosco – on September 17th at Darlington.
