October 26 – Wayne, NJ – The Bergen Catholic Varsity Football Team made explosive play after explosive play in overpowering DePaul Catholic 42-7 on Friday night. BC started scoring on an electrifying 93-yard touchdown run from Rhamir Johnson. After watching, one young fan, whose initials happen to be TD, reacted, “My car doesn’t go that fast!”
Andrew Boel hit Garrett Cody for a 67-yard touchdown pass and reception and BC took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter. At that point, Boel’s number-one target, Tyler Devera hauled in a touchdown pass and ran with Bavaro-esque determination to get into the endzone. (Students, if you don’t know, ask your parents who Mark Bavaro was. It is an essential part of any Giants fan’s education.)
DePaul finally cracked through a stingy BC defense, but a 42-yard TD pass to Amar Gist, followed by a 41-yd TD pass to Cody put BC up 35-7 at half.
BC returned to push the clock to running as Rahmir sprinted another 57 yards for a score bringing his rushing total to 261 yards for the night. Tyler Booker recorded eight tackles and one sack. Sebastian Sagar finished the night with one sack and Tywonne Malone added 3 tackles and a sack. Rene Nuñez continued his outstanding play on defense, returning an interception 47 yards just before half. Griffin McGovern snuffed out DePaul’s last scoring attempt, with a birthday fumble recovery in the red zone.
The Crusaders will return to action at home following a November 3, 2018 bye in the NJSIAA Non-Public 4 Tournament. BC is the #1 as they finish the regular season at 8-1, Super Football Conference United Red Champions, tied with St. Joseph Regional and St. Peter’s Prep.
