January 5 – Hackensack, NJ – The saying goes, “A tie is like kissing your sister.” While that might normally be true, the varsity hockey team’s 2-2 tie with Seton Hall Prep on Friday night demonstrated much more than that. It was a mid-term exam of sorts which showed the progress of a team jelling and growth from an opening day 7-3 loss to that same Pirate squad. Certainly this is not the same Crusader squad that started the season. It is clear attention to detail and quality of smart play has improved. Players are recognizing the coaching staff’s expectations and playing at a higher and higher level each game. After a scoreless first period, Tommy Olson sounded the alarm with a goal assisted by Ryan Moloughney at the 13:21. SHP tied the score 2 minutes later, but Nick Chiurazzi, assisted by who else, Ryan Moloughney, would give the Crusaders the lead with 2:08 remaining in the second.
