Senior Night for Varsity Hockey

January 11 – Hackensack, NJ – It would be hard not to be proud of the varsity hockey team on Friday night and the effort they gave vs. #14 ranked St. Peter’s Prep of Jersey City.
The Crusaders took over the start of the game with their seniors leading the way. Jake Antonucci opened with a beautiful power play goal, crashing the backside pipe and rebounding a Tommy Kleinman shot into the top shelf, giving BC a 1-0 advantage. Will Frasetto earned the second assist on the play. Billy O’Connor scored the second goal, assisted by Billy Salerno and Kleinman.
St. Peter’s made a strong run in the second period, knotting the score at two. It wasn’t until 2:32 remaining in the period that the Crusaders were again able to unknot the tie as Nick Stoebling converted on assists from Antonucci and Nick Chiurazzi.
The tension mounted throughout the third period, as BC maintained their lead about halfway through the period. St. Peter’s then tied the score at 7:45 remaining. The Marauders took the lead at with 3:52 remaining despite BC pushing the tempo. BC did not relent and tied the score off a beautiful shot by Cam Monteverdi, assisted by Olson and Frasetto with 2:08 remaining.
But as quickly as the tie came, the tie went, just five seconds later, SPP scored what would be the game winner at the 2:03 mark. BC continued skating and pushing the action and executed a 6v4 when they pulled goalie, Chris Branch for an additional skater while they had a power play with 1:22 remaining, but there was just too little time to finish.
Thank you to all the parents and fans for their enthusiasm supporting the team throughout the year. Now, onto the Counties!
