May 20-21 – Ramsey, NJ – The BC Track team turned in the top finish in school history at the Non-Public “A” North state sectional track championships, scoring over 100 team points in the two-day meet held at Don Bosco. Unfortunately, the Crusaders could not overtake a powerful St. Peter’s team, who took first, while BC outpaced third place PC by 40 points.
There were many excellent individual and relay performances by BC athletes, and a total of 11 individuals and all 3 relay teams qualified for the state championships on May 31 – June 1.
The scoring was led by senior Rahmir Johnson, who won the 100, was second in the 200, third in the long jump, and anchored the winning 4 x 400 relay team (26.5 points). Senior Braedon Fiume also had an excellent meet, winning the 1600, taking second in the 800, and running a leg on the championship 4 x 400 (20.5). Also qualifying in 4 separate events was senior James Blair, who took second in the hurdles, and also qualified in the 200, the high jump, and the 4 x 100 relay. Senior Dean Williamson had an ironman performance in the throws, qualifying in all three events (second in the javelin and fourth in the shot and discus for 16 total points), and senior Ivan Jacob also qualified in three events (hurdles, high jump, pole vault). The Crusaders won sectional titles in both the 4 x 400 relay (sophomore Owen McCarthy, seniors Jack Welch, Fiume, and Johnson) and the 4 x 800 relay (freshman Alex Shaia, McCarthy, and seniors Elias Shaia and Welch).
A total of 13 athletes will travel to Central Regional in Bayville for the State Championships.
