Campus Ministry

The purpose of the Campus Ministry Department is to promote the “spiritual well being” of the school. We do so by providing school-wide Masses and celebrations, prayer and retreat experiences, opportunities for peer ministry and community service, and personal counseling and sacramental ministry.

CAMPUS MINISTRY SERVICES

Spreading the “Good News”—Students put their faith into action by giving talks on retreats and inviting fellow students to share their faith in small groups. They challenge other students to become more aware of God in their lives. Select students will be involved in the morning Gospel and Prayers before each school day. Students interested in this ministry should see Mr. Powers for more information.

Liturgies—Students help organize and plan class Masses and participate as ministers in major liturgical assemblies. Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, servers and musicians are always needed.
Retreat Programs—Retreats offer the opportunity to break away and to spend focused time getting to know God and one another. Students take leadership roles in planning and running these retreats, creating an atmosphere of peer ministry. Retreats are very practical and the topics covered help students bring faith and values to bear on the pressures of life. Participation in a freshman and sophomore retreat is a requirement each year at Bergen Catholic.

Community Service Group or Individual Projects—Events will posted at school and announced during lunch periods to students. Flyers for major events will be sent home. Students are encouraged to partake in as many of these events as possible. All students involved with these group projects will receive a certificate of completion from the Director of Campus Ministry. Copies will be filed as well for students to distribute for college transcripts or service project requirements for their Religion class.

PEER MINISTRY PROGRAM

Our philosophy is that students need to minister to each other. Opportunities are provided through our retreat program, Eucharistic Ministry, and community outreach programs. Campus Ministry is one of many extra-curricular activities which enhance the educational experience here at Bergen Catholic.

ROSARY DAILY OFFERING—MONDAY THRU FRIDAY BEGINNING AT 7:15 AM IN THE CHAPEL.

Rosary beads and prayers are supplied for students. This is a new ministry at Bergen Catholic and students new to this form of prayer are always welcome. Special intentions may be offered by students at the offering box located in the Chapel. Student intentions will be offered but not read aloud during the reciting of the Rosary the following day.
