Crusaders too Powerful on Seniors Home Finale

BC's poised point guard, Raejon Figures played the role of leading scorer. It is an interesting role for him as he normally distributes and quarterbacks the offense, but he used his deadly jumper and a number of aggressive drives to the basket to create early offense in possessions before the Ironmen were ready to support against him.
Great senior leadership from Zach Freemantle 12 points and 8 rebounds and Doug Edert 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals, was out done by Jayson Earle’s 15 points, 9 rebounds an d3 assists. Matt Zona grabbed 5 rebounds and pitched in 7 points, providing outstanding toughness and physical play that the Ironmen had no answer for. Will Richardson added 6 points and Sean Regis electrified the crowd with a bucket. Onto the sectional final!

Zach Freemantle led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Doug Edert (18), Matt Zona (15), Julian Brown (13) and Jayson Earle (12). Will Richardson pitched in 8, followed by Justin Regis (5), Kobe Jerome (3) and Jahseim Davis, Raejon Figures, Jason Larranaga and Sean Regis two points apiece.

Crusader Clinch Second Straight BNC United Title With Win Over Don Bosco Prep

February 14 - Oradell, NJ -
The music played, "This is how we do it..." late into the evening as BC dismantled the Ironmen in front of a sell-out crowd in Hoehl Gymnasium on Thursday night 61-45.  It was the largest margin of defeat in a rivalry which typically boasts nail-biting, heart-stopping buzzer-beating endings.  Tonight, though, the Crusaders began to flex some muscle in the second quarter and relentlessly pulled away through the second half to clinic their second-straight league title.

It was the last piece to a fall and winter puzzle that was needed.  BC has now won division titles in Football (Super Football Conference), Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, Bowling, Swimming, Indoor Track and, Wrestling during this 2018-2019 campaign, with some great opportunities in county and state tournaments still ahead.

The game was all BC with the Crusaders dominating the Knights 69-36.  Doug Edert was on fire, scoring a season-high 35 points for the Crusaders and almost outscoring BT by himself.
That said, no single man a team makes.  He was lifted by 8 points from Matt Zona, 6 from Will Richardson, 5 from Jayson Earle and Jason Larranaga, 4 from Zach Freemantle and Julian Brown and 2 by Jahsiem Davis.
Crusaders Disarm Green Knights

January 31 – Montvale, NJ – Matt Zona was just the spark BC needed as he recorded the first 8 points to knock SJR from contention of the BNC United Red Division Title with a 56-52 victory on Thursday night.  It was a successive night where BC had to play a quality opponent and the Crusaders lived up to the challenge with a strong start and finish to the evening.  Doug Edert led BC scorers with a dozen and Zona and Jayson Earle each contributed 11.  Zach Freemantle hit for 8 points and Will Richardson and Raejon Figures each pitched in 7.
The home team only suffered a mere flesh wound in the first half and made a third quarter run with a series of back door cuts that accounted for a number of easy layups.  Coach Armstrong changed defenses and the team took away those passing lanes to get the game back under control.
The biggest defensive changes came on the offensive side, though as BC employed a 1-2-2 press.  Freshman guard, Will Richardson, used some exceptional anticipation, closing speed and leaping ability to tip away a number of passes which generated offense and helped BC to regain the momentum needed to hold off SJR in the final quarter.

Crusaders Cage Immaculate Conception – We Ain’t Lion!

Crusaders Cruise By DePaul

January 28 – Oradell, NJ – Much in the same fashion the Crusaders deposed DePaul in Wayne, BC generated a large first quarter lead and rode it to a
93-62 victory.  Zach Freemantle scored 10 of his game-high 21 in the first stanza with 5 field goals.  Jayson Earle led the second quarter scorers with 10 (finishing with 15 on the night) and was joined in double digits by freshman, Will Richardson and his 13 points.
It was a relentless offensive assault with unstoppable junior, Matt Zona contributing 9 in the effort.  Senior, Armani Cruz had his best night of the season dropping in 8 and he was matched by Jahsiem Davis.  Senior guard, Doug  Edert provided 4 and was joined by the Regis twins Justin (4) and Sean (2) who got in on the action. Raejon Figures scored 3 as did  Jason Larranaga and Tommy ScancarellaKobe Jerome 2 rounded out the scoring with a basket and BC’s second highest offensive output on the season and fourth effort over 90 points.

BC’s big men, Zach Freemantle (16 points) and Matt Zona (15 points) extended with a 21 point third, making the score 54-40 as the two entered the fourth quarter.
An enthusiastic crowd and foul trouble for the visitors made for an edge-of-your-seat finish.  Fortunately Doug Edert (6 points) Raejon Figures (5 points) and Jahseim Davis (4 points) all pitched in enough for BC to come away with a solid 65-61 victory.

Varsity Basketball Drops Heavyweight Battle 56-54

January 17 – Ramsey, NJ –
In a night, BC didn’t have its best stuff, the Crusaders scrapped and clawed for four quarters and nearly pulled off a great win on Thursday night.
The Ironmen opened a 12-4 lead and rather than let the game get away, the Crusaders continued to push tempo. Doug Edert completed a four-point play to close the lead to 16-13, but Bosco hit one more three before the end of the quarter and led 19-13 at the quarter.
In the second, Zach Freemantle’s dunk ignited the Crusader offense which closed a 30-22 deficit to close it to 30-28 at the half.
Edert gave BC its first lead of the game, 2 minutes into the 3rd, 33-32, but it lasted all too little and Don Bosco took a 40-38 lead into the final stanza.
While no other player on the roster could find a welcome rim, Matt Zona had everyone thinking about lightning striking again as he drained an impossible 3 pointer with under about 5.9 seconds to play. BC fouled the Ironmen who made one of two free throws. A last second shot was wide and a BC victory denied.
Zach Freemantle led BC scorers with 19 points. Matt Zona dropped in 18 and Doug Edert rounded out all BC scoring with 17.
Round 1 to the Ironmen. All of Crusader Nation looks forward to the rematch at Hoehl on Valentine’s Day!

Matt Zona had a strong night, with a team high 16 points and 7 rebounds. Zach Freemantle was consistent as well, scoring 12 and Doug Edert added 10. Will Richardson and Raejon Figures added 7 and 6 points respectively as the Crusaders also got quality time from Jayson Earle and the Regis twins! Yes, welcome back to Sean who has been out with an injury. He was able to get out to pitch in with Justin.
This could very well be a preview of what is to come as BC is a Non-Public “A” team and Ranney Non-Public “B.” Right now, there is a long way to go before that, including multiple games with Don Bosco Prep, the first coming on Thursday.
