CRUSADERS HOST WEST CATHOLIC PREP (PA) BURRS

DECEMBER 23 – ORADELL, NJ – On Saturday afternoon, Bergen Catholic hosted West Catholic Prep from Philadelphia in an independent high school basketball game.  The Crusaders came away with an 86-53 victory in the school’s 67th home opener.

The Crusaders controlled most aspects of the game led by Declan Wucherpfennig’s 14 points.  Julius Avent got things rolling for BC early, finishing with 11 points and AJ Williams finished with 12.  Jaden Brown made the most of his time knocking down double digits as well.

Interesting point for those who have not yet seen a HS basketball game this season.  The one-and-one-bonus free throws and method of counting fouls has changed.  Instead of the team fouls being counted each half, they are now counted each quarter.  Once a team reaches 5 personal fouls in a quarter, their opponent shoots two.

This is a change to the old rule whereby in each half, once a team accumulated 7 fouls, the opponent shot one-and-a-bonus.  Then, once the team reached 10 fouls, the opponent shot two shots.
