Graduation Year: 1977

Mr. John Amoratis, a 1977 Bergen Catholic graduate, was a member of the football team during his days at the school. He would go on to score many more “touchdowns” in the future as an outstanding and generous businessman. When he was attending Lycoming College, his family acquired what came to be known as its flagship restaurant, The Balcony, in Hawthorne. In 1985 he branched out, purchasing Brassies in Paramus with his brother-in-law. The success of that venture eventually opened the door for the acquisition of The Bogey Inn in Emerson, the Old Tappan Golf Club, Bacari Grill in Washington Township, Pacific Grill in Paramus and Oakville Grill in Moonachie. The Bacari Grill, because of its proximity to Bergen Catholic, has become known as the “BC Meeting Place,” with so many alumni and school events being hosted there. John, in the true BC spirit of giving back has also hosted annual cancer fundraising events at his restaurants in recent years. John and his wife, Lisa, are proud parents of three children.
