Mr. Lawrence Connolly, a 1967 graduate of Bergen Catholic, ran cross country, indoor track and outdoor track during his days at the school. Battling injuries and illness as an underclassman, his dedication and perseverance were rewarded in his junior and senior years when he finally reached his potential. Widely respected as a fierce competitor, he was co-captain of the cross country team as a senior. He achieved All-State, All-County and All-League honors in cross country and track. He set school and Bergen County records in the two-mile run, culminating in his winning the New Jersey State Meet of Champions Title in that event. Larry was The Bergen Record’s “Athlete of the Week” and was selected to The Record’s “All Decade Team” of the 1960s for the two-mile run. He was also selected as a member of the Bergen Catholic All-Decade Team. Larry received a full four-year scholarship to New York University, where he continued his outstanding career as a member of NYU’s nationally-ranked teams. He and his wife, Eileen, have two sons and a daughter.
