Brother Gerard M. Gaffney, CFC first arrived at Bergen Catholic in 1961, teaching English and French and also serving as the Guidance Department Chairman and Moderator of the football program. Brother Gaffney, who obtained his BA at Iona College and his MBA at St. John’s University. eventually drew assignments al Iona College, Iona Prep, and Monsignor Farrell HS in Staten Island. He participated in the Christian Brothers International Tertianship Program in Rome, Italy. Named as the Bergen Catholic Principal in 1974, he held that post until 1980 while continuing to teach courses in Religion, French, and English. He returned to Iona Prep as Assistant Headmaster and Chairman of the Foreign Language Department, and was eventually appointed the Presidency there in 2003.
