Br. John L. Gilchrist C.F.C. first came to Bergen Catholic in 1959, where he taught religion, English, Latin and algebra for nine years. Brother Gilchrist also served as school treasurer and building maintenance director. He was moderator of Our Lady’s Sodality and the Father’s Club. Brother ran Bingo on Tuesday nights and served as the freshman baseball coach. Since returning to Bergen Catholic in 1989, Brother has served, among sundry duties, as moderator of Bingo, Missions and the Bergen Catholic Alumni Association. In 1994 he celebrated his Golden Jubilee as a member of the Congregation of the Christian Brothers. Luke, as he is known to the Congregation, has kept in great shape over the years and can be seen taking some of his exercise walks around Oradell.
