Mrs. Ethel Gilles began working for Bergen Catholic in 1956. Mrs. Gilles was the first secretary for Bergen Catholic, pioneering with the rest of the faculty and staff as the school was literally being built around them. During the time when Bergen Catholic had only freshmen and sophomores, Mrs. Gilles could be heard ringing a hand bell, indicating the change of classes. As Bergen Catholic became a four year college preparatory high school, Mrs. Gilles’ duties evolved to Tuition and Transportation Coordinator. Twenty-seven years and five principals later, Mrs. Gilles retired from her duties. She presently resides in Nipomo, California.
