He was named First Team All-State his last 3 years at BC, and he broke and still holds 2 school records, while adding 5 state titles: 50 and 100 free sophomore year, 50 free junior year, 100 back and 100 free senior year. He was selected “Swimmer of the Decade” in New Jersey. In 2003, his senior year, Speedo and The National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association of America selected him as Swimmer of the Year. At the club level he was a consistent foe of Michael Phelps and fastest freshman in the nation in the 50 free. Throughout the years, Grant won 6 YMCA national titles (one in the 50 free, which set a national record), 100 free, 100 fly and 3 relays.
