James F. Higgins † received a basketball scholarship to Georgetown University where he played on the varsity team for four years and was named team captain for his senior year. He graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Jim served on various committees for Georgetown University as well as its Board of Directors. Jim served in the National Guard based out of Sea Girt, NJ as a Second Lieutenant from 1970-1976. In 1971, Jim began his professional career at Dean Witter. He held a variety of positions at the securities firm and served as Chairman, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Individual Investor Group of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. Upon his retirement, he served as Senior Advisor to Morgan Stanley and a member of the Board of Directors of the Morgan Stanley Fund Family, the Company’s principal asset management business. Jim was associated with Morgan Stanley and its predecessor Dean Witter for over 40 years. Jim’s sons, Michael (’97) and Christopher + (’04) graduated from Bergen Catholic and he was delighted to have his daughter Erin follow in his footsteps graduating from Georgetown University ’99. Jim was a proud member of the Br. Martin P. Burns Golf Committee from 2002-2004; he was pleased to support Br. Burns and Bergen Catholic in any way he could. In 2002 Jim contributed generously to the Saingas Training Center Project knowing that his support of this new facility would improve and enhance the lives of students at Bergen Catholic High School. Jim’s family was his most cherished and important accomplishment. He is survived by his wife Jackie, their children and six grandchildren.
