Robin James, a member of the Bergen Catholic Class of 1991, was a two-time All-County basketball player and is regarded as one of the best shooters in school history. During his 3 years on varsity, the team reached the county championship final each year, winning two titles. His senior year, he led his team to a 23-6 record and helped lead the team to a county championship. In four county tournament games, James scored 107 points to tie Bogota’s Pat Sullivan for second place all-time on the scoring list, and during one span made 27 consecutive free throws. In a system not known to produce high scorers, James became only the fifth player to top 1,000 points at BC. In an article with legendary high school basketball coach Marty Rivard, Robin James was mentioned as one of the 3 best players Rivard ever coached against when he stated: “There were a lot of great ones at Bergen Catholic, we played them a few times in the Jamboree. Robin James, he had a great game against us in the Jamboree. That was one of the best performances ever against us.” Robin earned a scholarship to play for Rutgers University and during his senior year at the Atlantic-10 conference tournament, he went 6-6 from the 3-point line, which remains a conference record. Robin and his wife, Tonya, are the proud parents of two boys Jaeden and Jackson.
