Matthew Lovecchio graduated from BC in 2000 after a storied playing career on the football field and basketball court. A three-year starter (earning All-County honors each season) and two-time All-State selection, Matt quarterbacked the nationally-ranked 1998 and 1999 football teams to an overall record of 22-1 and two state championships, while leading the Crusaders to an average of 42 points-per-game. He threw for 3,267 yards during his career and his total of 48 TD passes stood as a school record until the fall of 2012. Matt threw for 1,700 yards and 29 TDs to lead the legendary 1998 team to a #9 national ranking, a 12-0 record and a stunning total of 599 points scored (almost 50 points-per-game). During his career, he also rushed for 495 yards and five TDs and made seven interceptions. He capped his high school gridiron career by earning an Honorable Mention selection on the USA Today’s All-America team, and was recently selected to The Record’s all-time BC team as the QB. Matt was the captain of the BC football and basketball teams as a senior. He accepted a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, where he started the final eight games of the 2000 season as a “true” freshman, compiling a 7-1 mark and setting an Irish record for fewest interceptions per passing attempt.
