Mr. Jack McGovern is a 1976 graduate of Bergen Catholic, earning 9 varsity letters in football and track. A varsity starting center in his sophomore year, he played both ways in his junior and senior seasons, handling punting duties as a junior, and both punting and place-kicking duties as a senior. Jack held the school field-goal record of 36 yards for over 10 years. In addition, he was named to the All-League team in his junior season and to All-County and All-State squads in his senior year. He went on to excel at Holy Cross on an athletic scholarship, starting all 44 football games during his college career, while being named to the All-ECAC team in 1978 as a junior. As a senior, he received the John L. Davitt Trophy as the school’s most outstanding lineman, while being named to All-ECAC, All-New England, and All-East teams. Jack earned his BA degree in economics in 1980 and was inducted into the Holy Cross Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. He is currently an executive with McGovern Trucking and Warehouse in Bayonne, NJ. Jack and his wife, Ann, have 4 children—Brendan 10, Erin 8, Colin 6 and Griffin 16 months.
