Mr. J.R. Meloro, a graduate of the Class of 1991, was one of Bergen Catholic’s greatest cross-country and track runners. Overall, he was a two-time All-State selection (cross-country and indoor track) and was chosen to First Team All-Bergen County a total of five times. In December 1999, J.R. was named to The Record’s 1990s All-Decade Team for indoor track. He was Bergen County Group 4 champion twice and state runner-up on two occasions. J.R. finished in fifth place in the 1991 National Indoor Track Championships and was subsequently named “Athlete of the Week” by The Record. The co-recipient of the Brother Eugene McKenna Award at BC’s 1991 commencement, he also delivered the graduation address. As captain of the cross-country and track teams at the University of Notre Dame, he competed in three NCAA and six IC4A championships. He was Midwest Collegiate Conference champion twice at 5,000 meters and graduated as ND’s seventh-fastest 10,000-meter runner in school history. After graduating from ND, he returned to BC for three years to teach English and coach. Currently, J.R. is Executive Vice President at Publicis Healthcare. He and his wife, Ann, have two children.
