Jon Piela, a 1996 graduate of Bergen Catholic, experienced a tremendous amount of success in multiple sports during his athletic career at Bergen Catholic. He earned a total of 9 varsity letters in 4 different sports: football, wrestling, baseball and track. He served as captain for the wrestling and football teams, helping both programs win state championships. Piela still holds the Bergen Catholic football record for yards per carry (8.3) in career playoff games and is ranked in the top 10 of all-time leading rushers. Jon also led the league in rushing touchdowns and points scored his senior season. During his football career, Jon earned All-League, AlI Suburban, All-County and All-State honors. After earning a varsity letter in track his sophomore year, he joined the baseball team his senior year earning All-League honors and led the team in home runs. He was a 4-year starter for the wrestling team where he compiled over 90 wins, won 4 district titles, 2 Region titles, qualified for the state championships 3 times, and earned All-League and All-County honors. He went on to Fordham University, where he was a 4-year starter on the football team, served as team captain, and compiled 101 tackles in his senior season. He currently is a teacher and coach, and he and his wife Lisa, are the proud parents of 3 boys Sean, Matthew and Tice.
