Darren Rizzi graduated from Bergen Catholic in 1988 after an outstanding varsity career that saw him start for two seasons each in two sports. He is best known for his performances as one of BC’s finest receivers, verified by his recent selection to the Record’s All-Time BC Football Team. During his term as a starter, Darren helped BC advance to the State Championship Game twice, winining a title in 1986 and compiling a two year-record of 18-3-1. HE concluded his BC career with 69 receptions (a school record that stood for 22 years) for 1,239 yards and 11 TDs, and earned several honors, including First Team All-State All-Parochial. He was also an All-League outfielder for the baseball team, helping BC to post a 39-19 record and win a Section title during his two seasons. Darren continued his football career at Rhode Island where he was a three-year starter and two-time All-America choice (compiling totals of 160 catches for 2,426 yards and 15 TDs). After a tryout with the Philadelphia Eagles, he began a coadching career that took him to Colgate, New Haven, Northeastern, Rutgers and Rhode Island (including four seasons as Head Coach at two schools) and finally to his current position as the Special Teams Coach of the Miami Dolphins. He and his wife, Tracey, are the proud parents of five children.
