Category: Athlete

Mr. Tony Rocchio is a 1976 graduate of Bergen Catholic. The three-year varsity football starter played offensive guard and was a mainstay on defense as an end and linebacker during his BC career. He was so versatile and talented that he received All-County recognition at each of these positions. As the team’s co-captain Tony was a major contributor in leading BC, in its first-ever Playoff appearance, to the State Championship Game in 1975. He was named as the “Outstanding Football Player” in his graduating class and was awarded an athletic scholarship to the College of the Holy Cross. During his freshman year, Tony suffered a devastating hip injury that was supposed to end his playing career. He displayed his trademark toughness during two years of grueling, painful rehabilitation that followed, eventually returning to start at linebacker for two years for the Crusaders. During those two seasons, he was named to various ECAC weekly honor rolls. He returned to BC in 1980 to coach with his longtime football teammate and current Hall of Fame member, Jack McGovern, and helped lead the Crusader sophomore team to a perfect record. He has more than 20 years of domestic and international experience in the financial services sector. Tony and his wife, Rosemarie, are the parents of AJ (BC ’07) and Allie (IHA ’08).
