Br. James E. Roepke was first assigned to Bergen Catholic in 1974 to teach Chemistry and Biology, and was named head of the Science Department. He returned as Principal from 1980 to 1986. During his tenure as Principal, the library was built in the quadrangle, new lockers were purchased for the 1,100 students in BC at that time, and the school was cleared of asbestos. He is most proud of creating the Christian Service Program in which all students participated. Each year, Brother enjoyed teaching on or two periods of Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, or Religion 12. Brother was also the Principal of All Hallows High School (Bronx, NY), Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons HS (Schenectady, NY) and Iona Prep (New Rochelle, NY). He served six years in the Province Government of the Christian Brothers. He returned All Hallows in 1999, where he taught Chemistry and Physics and was a Department Chairman. In 2002, he was appointed President of All Hallows. Last year, he and his brother, Br. R.J. Roepke, CFC (BC 1980-1996) were granted a one-year sabbatical. He returned to All Hallows last September and is once again teaching Science.
