Mr. Richard Scanlon, a member of the Bergen Catholic Class of 1999, was able to achieve considerable success both on the field and in the classroom during his days at BC. A member of the National Honor Society, he was a three-year starter for the Crusaders’ football team and a was a captain on the legendary 1998 team that finished #9 in the country and was voted “Bergen County Team of the Century.” Rich was recognized as the “New Jersey Defensive Player of the Year” by the Star-Ledger in 1998 and also earned First Team All-State honors and scholarship to Syracuse University. While at Syracuse, he was a four-year letterman, a starter for three seasons at linebacker and team captain. He won the Bill Horr Award as the MVP of the 2003 team after a season in which he finished ninth in the country in tackles, was named Second-Team All-Big East and was chosen defensive MVP of the Blue-Gray All-Star Game. After graduating magna cum laude with a BS in Pre-Medicine in 2003, Rich went on to play in the National Football League for the Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans and New York Giants. Having retired from the NFL, Rich is now pursuing his MBA at the prestigious Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
