Coach Fred Stengel has just concluded his 12th year at the helm of Bergen Catholic’s Football Program. He sports a career record of 111-18. His 99-10 record in the 1990’s makes Bergen’s football program the winningest in the state of NJ. His teams have made the playoffs 11 straight years with a record 7 State Championships in the 1990’s. Three of Fred’s teams went undefeated: 1991, 1992 and 1998. The 1998 team was 12-0, #1 in New Jersey, #9 in the USA Today national poll and was voted Team of the Century by the Record. Including his tenure as an assistant at Union HS, Fred has participated in 20 playoffs in 22 years with 14 state titles to show for his efforts. 19 of Fred’s players received full football scholarships. 30 have played in the Ivy or Patriot Leagues and 10 have gone on to become captains of their college teams. Coach Stengel has been married to his lovely wife Mary Lynne for 18 years. They have two children, James and Amanda.
