Bergen Catholic Students Give Back in Brownsville, TX Immersion Trip

ORADELL, NJ, November 14, 2023 –Bergen Catholic students recently participated in an immersion service trip to Brownsville, TX from November 4th-11th, and gained a first-hand perspective of what life is like in the southern-most United States point of entry with Mexico, and were educated on the challenges posed by immigration.

Each day the BC students worked with various organizations dealing with difficult circumstances. The Crusaders worked with Arise, an organization that helps women who come over the border with programs and housing. The BC contingent also made meals for those in need at the Good Neighbor Settlement House and volunteered at Catholic Charities RGV Humanitarian Respite Center, where immigrants seeking asylum are housed at the border, and served meals to over 500 people.

In addition to spending time serving those in need, the Crusaders celebrated Mass with other Edmund Rice Christian Brother schools at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle National Shrine.

The BC students who participated in the service trip were: Shant Cakirdas, Liam Sullivan, Noah Esposito, William Borg, Keegan Gallagher, Jonathan Owens, & Oliver Campbell.

BC Crusaders are prepared to lead in life, by learning how others live and finding ways to make their lives better.
