EARLY TOP 10 HOCKEY MEETING, EXCITING AS ALWAYS

DECEMBER 21 – HACKENSACK, NJ –  As usual, Bergen-Bosco started living up to the hype from the opening puck drop.  Both teams skated fast and played hard-checking hockey.  Ultimately the state’s #2 ranked Ironmen came away with a 3-1 victory.

With the scored tied at zero late in the first period, BC found themselves short-handed due to a cross-checking penalty.  The penalty-killing unit did a great job killing off the two minute penalty and as it ended, BC immediately picked up another two minutes for cross-checking.  In the opening shift of the second penalty, Matt Maglio broke out and skated the length of the ice on a breakaway, scoring short-handed to put the Crusaders up 1-0.  Bergen would hold that lead for the remaining three minutes in the period.

The Ironmen tied the score up six minutes into the second period on a cross-ice pass which was redirected to beat Crusader goalie Erez Yacobi.    Bergen yielded another power play opportunity to the Ironmen and they took advantage, scoring with about 3 minutes remaining in the period.  The Bosco offense showed why it one of the top in the state.  Late in the period, BC was trying to clear their zone, but turned the puck over deep.  Yacobi made a point-blank-range save, but the rebound bounced to the backside and was buried by an awaiting maroon skater, giving the visitors a 3-1 advantage into the second intermission.

The Crusaders found themselves short-handed again in the third period, but Yacobi was outstanding, making acrobatic saves and keeping BC in the game.  Matt Maglio made some excellent late rushes down the ice.  Yacobi was stellar in the pipes.  Time ran out on the game, making Friday night’s BC-DBP game another we can’t wait to watch.
